about

'Defragmentations' is the second of two movements of Roots Grown Deep, jKe's musical story of unlearning, awakening and ascension from the pavements of America to the river valleys of the Limpopo in South Africa . . .

--------------------------------

In truth, the going forward may be the going backward, but the remainder is ambition petrified by time.

Living in harmony with the land defragments the mind. Distinctions and definitions fall away, and language becomes musical rather than definitive. As I weary of the ideological battles waged through politics and religion, I turn back to that which was always within me...music and faith. Slowly I awake from a modern slumber in which institutions have lordship over my decision-making and a faux intelligence disguises insecurity. Welcome nakedness. Unfold lost history and herstory. I fall in love with our humanity, our agency, and the essential sameness we all share and see clearly when we face one another and the earth, living in competition with neither.

These song-poems are the outcries and defragmentations of a painful pregnancy giving birth to true nature. In the dogged pursuit of perfection I had become uprooted, only to find that I am a tree and the only way I can feed my self is from the earth. Slowly I grow, giving and taking in equal measure. Balance in love is the only destination of this aFREAKan unlearning. - jKe
